About Us

Laura Hann

Hello, I’m Laura, the owner. I’m a Clinical Psychologist and Family Therapist, a Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician (CEDC) and a Board Approved Supervisor.

My passion is to help people develop a healthy relationship with food and their body using a weight neutral, Health at Every Size (HAES) philosophy. I’m a clinical psychologist and I’m skilled in working with  adults with eating disorders and body image distress using cognitive-behavioural therapy for eating disorders (CBT-E), Schema Therapy, Supportive Structured Clinical Management (SSCM) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

I’m a full Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), the Australia and New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders (ANZAED), and is a Verified Provider member of Size Inclusive Health Australia, so you’re in good hands.

In my spare time I like to read, garden, do yoga and pilates, ride my bike or walk around the river.

My Vision

Everyone can recover from disordered eating and body image distress, and every session makes a difference.

My Mission

I provide excellent therapy for  adults and carers; professional supervision for colleagues; and education and support to my referrers and community. I educate the community about the harm caused by diet culture and weight stigma, and promote weight-neutral, Heath At Every Size (HAES) aligned care for every body.

My Values

Integrity

I practice what I preach, I model HAES principles in my own life, and speak up about weight stigma. You're safe with me, and you can trust me.

Ongoing learning

There is always something to learn in this ever-changing field, and I keep an open mind about new therapies or new approaches. I strive to improve the services in any way I can, to maximise the therapy experience and to support referrers.

Care

I care about you, and care for you. I know that people feel deeply ashamed about their eating behaviours, and their body. I also care for myself, have a manageable caseload and work part time, so that I can take good care of both of us.

Finding Balance Psychology is no longer accepting referrals for young people and families, but we welcome referrals for adults 18 years and over.
